Purpose of the function: 

To lead and innovate within the payroll department by integrating wage tax advisories, social security advisories, and compliance assignments with payroll processing. The role includes advising clients on tax/payroll matters, handling objections against tax assessments and social security audits and preparing expatriate requests.  

Place in the organization: 

The junior manager tax reports to the director of the BPS department and supervises the consultants at the payroll department. The specialist works closely with other departments to ensure a comprehensive service delivery that meets all clients' tax and payroll needs. 

Tasks and responsibilities: 

Consulting and advisory: 

Prepare and independently manage advice on wage taxes, social security, and expatriate arrangements of a complex nature, ensuring alignment with company standards and client expectations. 

Identify advisory requests from clients, understanding and acting on their needs with regard to payroll, wage taxes, and social securities. 

Provide expert advice on objections against tax assessments and social security audits, ensuring effective resolution and client satisfaction. 


Compliance and payroll management: 

Independently review payroll calculations, wage tax returns, and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. 

Draft and manage objections and appeals related to payroll and tax assessments, providing strategic guidance to clients and the team. 

Lead the payroll department, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, tax filings, and reporting by the payroll consultants. 

Client and team support: 

Support business development efforts and the acquisition of new clients by leveraging expertise in tax and payroll management. 

Build and maintain a robust internal and external network, actively engaging with colleagues, clients, and industry professionals. 

Oversee and contribute to the professional development of team members, encouraging knowledge sharing and expertise in wage tax, social security, and payroll management. 


Guidelines for required level of education, knowledge, and experience: 

Degree in Tax Law/Fiscal Economics or related field, with specialization in wage taxes and social security desirable. 

Qualified tax consultant, with certification in payroll management a plus. 

At least 5 years of experience in a tax advisory and payroll management role, with proven expertise in wage taxes, social security, and expatriate arrangements. 

Fluent in Dutch and English; proficiency in additional languages is beneficial. 

Advanced skills in payroll software, Microsoft Office, and other relevant technology tools. 


Required competencies: 

Customer-oriented with a strong focus on meeting client needs in the areas of tax, social security, and payroll management. 

Deep understanding of wage tax laws, social security regulations, and payroll processes. 

Flexible and proactive in managing multiple projects and client requests. 

Analytical skills to interpret complex tax and payroll data, providing actionable insights. 

Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of guiding a team and engaging with clients at all levels.
